Next up for our July bi-monthly meeting will be guest speaker Drew Alexander. If you’ve heard of the Alexander Brothers and their handmade crafts and fine furnishings, you may have heard of Drew Alexander.
Drew takes the lead in the metalworking side of the family business. Drawn to blacksmithing at age 13 when seeing a local blacksmith at a festival, Drew got his start apprenticing at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, Virginia. For over twenty one years Drew has honed his craft through self-education, learning and leading in his local blacksmithing community, through books, networking with other artisan blacksmiths online, and being mentored by incredible craftsmen like Nol Putman.
He specializes in client led projects, and prefers large pieces that allow room for artistic creativity and customization. After years in the fine home building and construction industry, Drew stepped into blacksmithing fulltime in October 2021. He is currently the chairman of the board of the Shenandoah Valley Blacksmith Guild, is a member of the Society for Heritage Ironworkers, and a member of the Artist Blacksmithing Association of North America.
His shop, located in Timberville, VA is open daily by appointment by phoning 540.421.6763.
